living with cancer

This is the one diary I should have kept 14 years ago and one I wish I did not feel the need to keep now. I was diagnosed with bone cancer in 1992 and survived. 2006 and I now have another tumor under investigation: the journey begins again..

Thursday 22 November – Ultra Sound Scan

And today I discovered I have a Cyst on my right kidney which appears to be the main source of all the pain I have been experiencing in my back; once again brilliant service from the staff at my local hospital, George Eliot Hospital.
Now I just need to wait for all the findings to be fed back to my GP over the next week or so to see how bad they are and how they can be treated or maintained.
I am just a little tired of people telling me it is all ok now because they know of a friend or a relative who has either a Hiatus Hernia or a Kidney Cyst; do not think that none of us are alike and that not the symptoms are the same?
“Oh, you lost a leg? That’s alright, my uncle did and he used to run marathons”
“Lost an eye? Never mind you still have another one”
“Got a cold? You should wrap up”
I am not looking for sympathy because those that I chose to tell in person about my state of health have asked to be kept informed, I do not expect them to then tell me how I should be feeling based on their second hand experience of similar ailments suffered by someone they happen to know.
As far as my employer is concerned, even more so my immediate manager, they are in no position to gauge how I feel based on others, if they need to know how I feel either ask me and accept what I am telling you or talk to my GP, I will gladly arrange a meeting.

Wednesday 21 November - Gastroscopy

I have always dreaded having a camera fed down my throat into the Gullet and was not looking forward to this one at all. What can I say? I am glad that one is over and I do not want to repeat that in a hurry. Despite the numbing of the throat area and the mild sedative I was given the actual swallowing of the tube was gaggingly horrendous. Mind you, the team who performed the task were once again absolutely superb, I have a lot to be grateful to the NHS for and having fantastic staff locally is one of them.
The results in full will now be assessed and forwarded to my GP, but I have been informed I have a Hiatus Hernia. How or when it will be treated is something I will have to discuss with my GP when the results are through. One more test tomorrow, but this one promises to be a walk in the park.

One down, two to come, good news

My three monthly Cancer check-up in Birmingham went well and I am still clear and have made another appointment for three months time. Thorough examination from Andrea, once again thank you.
I am not looking forward to today’s procedure but I cannot wait to get it out of the way.
